BECAS MEC and MPSYD 2009

3 May 2009

Over 25,000 students and teachers will be enjoying an English language course abroad this summer, thanks to the annual award of BECAS from the Ministry of Education.

The award this year is 1,700 Euros for the for young people aged between 16 and 30. The award can be used as whole or part payment for an English language course in any country where English is the official language, providing the course lasts for a minimum of 3 weeks and includes a minimum of 15 hours per week English tuition.

Moreover, the Ministry will award 2500 scholarships of 2100 euros for English language courses abroad for young primary school teachers and students in their final year of teaching. These grants are intended to encourage teachers  to improve their English by attending an English language course abroad. The course must last at least 6 weeks, include a minimum of 20 hours per week English tuition and take place between June 1 and November 30, 2009 in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, United States, Australia, Malta or New Zealand.

The award is paid directly to the candidates selected, and attendance and completion of the course  once completed has to be certified. Those who benefit from the award this year will be given preference to seek renewal in the next academic year 2009-2010.
