2009 marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of Scotland’s national poet and icon, Robert Burns. To celebrate, 2009 has been declared Scotland’s “Year of Homecoming” and Robert Burns will be celebrated in more ways than the traditional Burns Supper in January.
A number of special events and festivals will be taking place across Scotland throughout the year, designed to celebrate Scotland’s great contributions to the world.

Edinburgh
Internationally renowned for having one of the most beautiful city vistas in the world, Edinburgh is a must-visit destination. As well as the famous music and arts festival held during August each year, Edinburgh offers Scotland’s most famous castle, fabulous shopping and a unique blend of ancient and modern visitor attractions.
Whisky
There are few products which are so closely related to the land of their birth than Scotch malt whisky. Distilleries all around Scotland offer tours and tasting sessions, providing visitors ample opportunities to find out if whisky really does taste better in Scotland…?
Golf
Scotland is famous as the home of golf, the main attraction for visitors being the Old Course at St Andrews. With only one hour journey time from Edinburgh and seven golf courses in total, St Andrews is a must for any golf fan.
Haggis, tatties and neeps
A traditional Scottish meal made from a spiced mutton sausage (haggis), mashed potato (tatties) and turnips (neeps). You have to try it at least once! As well as haggis, Scotland is also famous for delicious smoked fish and seafood.
Scenery
Scotland has always been seen as an idyllic and mysterious land, where ancient castles stand proud on majestic mountains. From tranquil lochs (lakes) to rugged seaside towns, Scotland’s stunning scenery makes it an ideal destination for anyone who loves the great outdoors.
